Towards zero geraldine mcewan5/22/2023 ![]() I think Joan Hickson portrayal was beautifully understated and she perfectly conveyed Miss Marple’s self-deprecating brilliance.Īs I said, I thought the series was excellent – the music and opening credits created the just the right atmosphere – a kind of genteel menace - and the period costumes and settings were perfect. I hardly recognised it as the ‘Sleeping Murder’ I know! But more of Geraldine McEwan later. Unlike the recent ‘Sleeping Murder’ starring Geraldine McEwan as Marple. This is always the case on the large or small screen – but nothing too outlandish. Yes, they took some liberties with the plots and characters. ![]() ![]() Unhesitatingly, I plump for Joan Hickson and I really loved the television films she made of the Jane Marple stories. ![]() As with Hercule Poirot, we all have our own ideas about who is the best miss Marple. ![]()

![]() No matter how large my operation gets, or how many books I print I could still spend hours upon hours getting lost in folding paper samples, screen printing, letter-presses and sewing. ![]() ![]() ![]() I asked the author of this magical book, Dallas Clayton, what crafty things he was thankful for and here’s what he said: I’m thankful for cutting my teeth in the DIY world of making things by hand. So to enter this giveaway, we ask you to share something crafty that you are thankful for. I am thankful for washable markers, fusible tape, mod podge, and the occasional extra-long nap time. I love it so much I asked the author if we could write about it, and he is sharing with us FIVE COPIES to give to thankful Prudent Baby readers. Take a look at a some of my favorite pages. This is a story of Thankfulness, for “big things like gigantic dino machines and small things and all things that fall in between.” It’s so appropriate as the holiday approaches and I’m buying copies for all my friends with children (and a few without children). An Awesome Book of Thanks by Dallas Clayton is so full of pure joy at being alive, with adorable illustrations and a lyrical tone reminiscent of Dr Suess, with a modern edge. I cried with happiness the first time I read it. I can tell you without reservation that this treasure is my favorite children’s book of all time. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ‘Oh, you wicked little thing!’ cried Alice, catching up the kitten, and giving it a little kiss to make it understand that it was in disgrace. The way Dinah washed her children’s faces was this: first she held the poor thing down by its ear with one paw, and then with the other paw she rubbed its face all over, the wrong way, beginning at the nose: and just now, as I said, she was hard at work on the white kitten, which was lying quite still and trying to purr–no doubt feeling that it was all meant for its good.īut the black kitten had been finished with earlier in the afternoon, and so, while Alice was sitting curled up in a corner of the great arm-chair, half talking to herself and half asleep, the kitten had been having a grand game of romps with the ball of worsted Alice had been trying to wind up, and had been rolling it up and down till it had all come undone again and there it was, spread over the hearth-rug, all knots and tangles, with the kitten running after its own tail in the middle. For the white kitten had been having its face washed by the old cat for the last quarter of an hour (and bearing it pretty well, considering) so you see that it COULDN’T have had any hand in the mischief. One thing was certain, that the WHITE kitten had had nothing to do with it:–it was the black kitten’s fault entirely. Through the Looking-Glass, by Lewis Carroll ![]()

O henry the ransom red chief5/22/2023 ![]() ![]() Henry’s famous stories, “The Ransom of Red Chief” by utilizing narratological tools of analysis. Accordingly, this study aims to pave the way for a better understanding of one of O. In the light of the developmental process of narratology, it is possible to suggest that systematized and consistent ways of depicting the constructive elements of a narrative have been prevalent. Today, narratology has been the focus of interest of many branches, and by virtue of the expansion in its size and importance, a great deal of contribution has been made to its content not only written discourses but also to the fields of film, history and even medicine. Though it is possible to trace the origins of narrative theory back to Aristoteles and Plato, the current bases of it under the name of narratology as a discipline on its own right were laid in 1960s with the studies performed in the frame of French Structuralism. ![]()

Riddle master trilogy5/22/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() I know McKillip was a talented writer and this book, and series, are loved by many people. I don't quite get what's happening in the book or how the world works. "The Beasts of Eld" hooked me by page 4-5, but "Riddle-Master" hasn't hooked me even after 60 pages. There's a map at the beginning of the book, so I can use that to track places, but there's no index/appendices that keeps track of people or why they're important outside of what's happening in the story. Even the main character feels very enigmatic to me. There are so many different people and places mentioned, that I'm having trouble keeping up or really caring about anyone. I'm a little over 60 pages in to "The Riddle-Master of Hed" and confused as to what's going on. Unfortunately, I'm struggling through the first book in the series. ![]() I read that her Riddle-Master series was also very good, so bought the trilogy in one, large, book. ![]() McKillip is an excellent writer and I have never encountered anything truly similar to her writing style before. I felt like I was a kid again, breaking into "The Hobbit" or "The Book of Three" for the first time. I loved reading that book and it is now one of my favorite books ever. I read McKillip's "Forgotten Beasts of Eld" over a year ago. ![]()
